Bring on the snow

It’s been a pretty pitiful winter here in MN with mild temps and no snow real snow since before the holidays. At the moment a nice little snow shower is moving through the metro which I think is awesome. I just wish we were going to get more then the inch the storm is going to produce. At least it should cover up the brown grass a bit and make it actually look like winter. It should also make for an interesting rush hour. Hopefully people will use their heads and not FREAK out because it’s snowing. I guess I’ll find out in just a little while. (Better go find some wood to knock on)

Last night at our TNT meeting we went over the gear and equipment that the new team members are going to need this season. All the mentors brought in some of their gear to give the other team members of sense of what we were talking about. For some I’m sure it was a bit overwhelming when we started tossing out items like tri shorts and body glide. They seemed to take it in pretty good strides and asked a lot of good questions after the meeting as they were looking at some of the gear. For me it was just fun to get out some of my gear that has been in boxes since the fall. Just another indication that the season is on the move and we’ll be racing is no time.

I will have all the details, most likely very boring details, about the group swim later tonight or in the morning. I think the workout tonight will give us a good indication about our teams and where they stand on the athletic scale. You always get a range of abilities when you have such a large group, but that’s what makes it fun and challenging. Tonight we get to see where people are and the excitement begins for watching and tracking their progress. I guess that’s the best part about being a mentor. It is the thrill of being there as someone continually challenges themselves and their abilities to finally arrive at a great feat like completing their first triathlon. Man I love this stuff…

So cool that you're a mentor! Sounds like you're a good one! I'm really excited to pace the Cleveland Marathon this year...it will be fun to be with people and hopefully help them reach their goals.

We just got 7 inches yesterday! I felt like such a little kid. We hadn't gotten any snow since mid-December--there's something about a nice new blanket of white! :)

I am eating trail mix my friend brought me from Trader Joe's and thinking of you (well, to be honest, I'm also thinking of how cool it would be to have Trader Joe's in Ethiopia. All my food issues would be solved. Sigh.)

Anyway, I wanted to say how incredibly jealous I am that you get to go running, biking, and swimming--even in crowded pools and snow. It's a freedom I used to take for granted.

I wanted to share with you my version of a marathon these days, just for S&G.

Getting on the road at 8 am for 2 hours of nauseating, spine-twisting hell on the worst road ever, having to do public speaking on the spot in front of 50 people while still green from the trip, drinking the 5 obligatory cups of coffee over the next 7 hours of interviews and presentations (no water available), then enduring 3 hours of even worse road back home, ALL WITHOUT GOING TO THE BATHROOM ONCE. How d'ya like them apples?

Yeah, yeah, so I'm severely dehydrated. And possibly have a UTI. Whatevs. ;-)

Ugh. My commute last night was terrible! You'd think that folks here would be used to driving in the snow by now. I don't know why the first snowfall in a long time always causes havoc on the roads. :(

Glad to hear that you had a good meeting last night. Hopefully, it wasn't as stressful as you were expecting it might be.
